# How we write hooks

> Every hook in the library is written for one niche, labeled with one of ten hook patterns and explained in one sentence. We remove openers that audiences have learned to skip, and we never invent statistics or results.

## The format of every hook

- **Spoken line:** what you say to camera, 15 words or fewer, so it lands in the first one to three seconds.
- **On-screen text:** a short version for viewers watching without sound, 8 words or fewer.
- **First frame:** what the camera shows in the first second, because viewers judge the image before they hear anything.
- **Pattern:** the structure behind the hook, linked to a page that explains it.
- **Why it works:** one sentence on the psychology, so you can adapt the idea.

## Placeholders instead of invented numbers

Hooks that rely on a number or a personal result use square brackets, for example "[30] days" or "[your result]". You replace them with your own real details. We do this because a hook that promises a result the video cannot back up costs trust, and on most platforms it can also break advertising and endorsement rules.

## How hooks are reviewed

Library hooks are written or edited by our team. Hooks drafted with AI help are reviewed by a person before they are published; anything vague, misleading or too close to an overused template is rewritten or removed. Health, money and legal topics get extra care: no medical, financial or legal promises.

## What we remove

Some openers were copied so often that viewers now scroll past them. We keep a public [dead hooks list](/dead-hooks/) and the generator is instructed never to use those phrases. The list is updated as audiences change.

## How the generator works

The generator sends your topic, audience and promise to an AI model with a fixed set of rules: a different pattern for each of the two hooks, no invented statistics, placeholders for personal details and no phrases from the dead hooks list. Results are filtered again on our side before you see them. When the daily AI limit is reached, the generator switches to our own pattern templates and library hooks.

## Corrections

If a hook is misleading, outdated or wrong for its niche, tell us through the [contact page](/contact/). We review every report.
