# Contrarian hook

> A contrarian hook pushes back on advice the audience has heard many times, such as "stop posting every day" or "you do not need more cardio." It works because disagreement creates tension that viewers want resolved.

## How it works

Pick a belief that is genuinely common in your niche, then state the opposite plainly. The viewer either agrees and wants confirmation, or disagrees and wants to argue; both keep watching.

The video must earn the claim. Give a real reason and an alternative within the first few seconds after the hook. Contrarian hooks without a payoff feel like bait and hurt trust.

Avoid contradicting safety or medical guidance just for attention.

## Works best for

- Expert and coaching accounts
- Niches full of repeated advice (fitness, marketing, personal finance)
- Opinion and commentary videos
